This event is for you if….
You are curious about life in a zen monastery
You feel called to explore a life that moves away from consumerism and busy culture.
You have questions about how Zen training can support your personal and spiritual growth.
You're looking for an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals committed to spiritual practice.
You’re considering a spiritual path that involves living close to nature and the seasons.
You’d like to hear firsthand accounts from those currently living and training in a monastic environment.
Residency at Upaya is a context to explore who we really are, moment-to-moment. This wholehearted exploration opens us to our inherent wisdom and compassion, and inspires us to meet the suffering of this world. In residency, we commit to Zen practice, service, and study. Our training is held with warmth, joy, and humor, as well as with rigor, care, and attentiveness.
Upaya Zen Center is a Zen Buddhist practice, service, and training center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Our vision focuses on the integration of practice and social action, bringing together wisdom and compassion. We are a global community for those working to create racial, economic, and environmental justice, compassionate care for the most vulnerable, and a place of committed, daily contemplative practice and learning through its retreats, trainings, and programs, free Dharma podcasts and community services.
Our mission is to provide a context for community practice, education in Buddhism and social service in the areas of death and dying, prison work, the environment, women’s rights, and peacework. It endeavors to fulfill the vision of the Five Buddha Family Mandala, by understanding the integration of all of its functions.
This online zoom event will be a chance to learn a little more about residential Zen training and hear from current residents about their experiences—both the challenges and the benefits. If the prospect of residency intrigues you, we hope you’ll join us. Residency isn’t for everyone–but if you’re looking for a life-changing experience of a different nature, then it might just be for you. In this zoom your questions will be answered, and your answers may be questioned.
